About Us

The Mathematical Club at the University Paris-Sud 11 was created by the "Olympiade Française de Mathématiques" (represented by Claude Deschamps), the "Académie de Versailles" (represented by Pierre Michalak) and the "Université Paris-Sud Orsay" (represented by Louis Santharoubane) in January 2007. This is an educational activity in out-of-school which is completely free of charge.

Main objectives of the club are to teach students ingenious elementary mathematics, to encourage them in studying profound subjects, to develop their intuition, creativity of thinking and assiduity in solving problems. At the moment, there are only two mathematical clubs in France holding the same idea: in Orsay and in Lyon. 

It is our hope that the trainings, the seminars and the internships we organise will motivate pupils to choose a scientific career. At present stage, more than 200 high school students have already participated in our club's life and it has shown itself helpful in various examinations, contests and olympiads.
Therefore, if you are an enthusiastic high school student and if you are interested in mathematics, then you are welcome to our club!

The trainings take place on Saturdays from 2pm to 6pm. The address is:

Prix Fermat Junior

Le prix Fermat Junior 2009 a été attribué conjointement à

Armand Bernardi, Clément Jambou, Emmanuel Lecouturier,

Sébastien Miquel, Jean Rax, Nathan Skrzypczak et Anne Kalougine,

membres de l'équipe "France 2" qui a remporté (ex aequo) la compétition mathématique ITYM 2009

Le prix Fermat Junior, d'un montant de 2000 Euros, est décerné tous les deux ans à un ou des étudiants de niveau au plus bac+3 pour une contribution mathématique. Il est associé au prix Fermat, qui récompense une contribution mathématique de premier plan à l'une des trois disciplines marquées par Pierre de Fermat : Arithmétique, Calcul des variations, Probabilités. Pour mémoire, les lauréats du prix Fermat 2009 sont Elon Lindenstrauss et Cédric Villani.
